Front End Vibration Posted by Peter [Email] (#2804) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Peter) on Thu, 5 Aug 2004 17:37:41 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have a '99 Saab 9-3. It has 71K and ever since 35K it has had a vibration or shutter coming from the front right of the vehicle. It happened after going over a pot hole going about 55 on the free way. It came up fast and there was nothing I could do about it. Ever since then I could here this vibration or shutter especially at slower speeds and if the road was slanted towards the curb so the driver's side was lighter. Generally on the freeway I did notice it much. Recently it has become more noticeable at all times. The dealer could never find anything wrong with it but they proved themselves to be quite incompetent on more than one occaision. If you jacked the driver's side up and grabbed the front axle there seemed to be too much play. The passenger's side had very little (if any). There is some movement on the cv joint end of things and some movement at the tranny. What I was told is that I need to have my motor mounts replaced because they only last 50K!!! Is this true? Who designs motor mounts to only last 50K? The mechanic said that would put things back in place and possibly stop the problem, but you can't be sure until things are back in place. He also wants $650 to replace the motor mounts. Is that reasonable? I also need new tires. I am debating whether to get the tires replaced and get and alignment and see if that helps before I spend the $650 getting the motor mounts replaced. But then again maybe I shouldn't get irregular ware on my tires before the motor mounts are replaced. Or maybe there is an internal issue with the CV joint. Any and all thoughts are appreciated.
