Wanted to share more info and get some advice on my options....
Dealer said that oil screen was sludged and blocked up (I change my oil with synthetic every 5K miles) and caused a bearing to freeze causing timing chain to jump
Said I have three options:
1) spend $7,000 for new lower block from Saab with 12 mo, unlimited mile warranty
2) spend $2,000 for used engine and $2100 to install it ($4100 total), and have a 6 month warranty
3) don't do anything, and could 'sell' it to tech by them paying the diagnosis bill ($500)
Personally, I am ready to junk it- I bought it just 14 months ago for $6,500, had the clutch go out ($1,000)and now this. I always wanted to own a Saab (friend had one, loved it, neighbor drove one for over 250K miles), but now, I really don't care if I ever drive one again.
Please provide advice on which way you would go, or give me some hope that, if I do the used engine route, that I could be a happy Saab owner again.....
Gerry
