Just wanted to share the text of the letter sent to me by Saab USA's non-customer service department. I know for a fact that Saab is honoring 2nd and 3rd owner's claims, so if you happen to own a 2000 or newer 9-3 convert and have issues, it IS worth pursuing the matter.
Those of us with failed _1999_ converts need to work together--since that year was not included in the original announcement of the extended 8-year engine warranty, Saab HQ is taking the opportunity to wiggle out of repairing the SAME defective engine that's in the 2000-2002s.
Here is my impressive letter from the lead EDS contractor witch who manages Saab's customer service at the moment. That office is being put out of commission in coming months. I like to think of her as being unemployed soon....she certainly will not be 'representing' Saab much longer.
Of course, this letter DOES NOT state that the reason my claim is being denied is that I am the 3rd owner....the reason I was given over the phone.

TO ME:
Dear ME:
Thank you for contacting the Saab Customer Assistance Center regarding your 1999 9-3. We appreciate the opportunity to address your concerns.
While the objective of Saab Cars USA, Inc. is to achieve full customer satisfaction, numerous factors are reviewed prior to offering assistance. After an automobile has been in service for several years, vehicle uasage, owner maintenance, and wear can contribute to difficulties beyond the manufacturer's control. Based on the fact that the vehicle is outside of the 4 years/50,000 miles warranty, we are unable to offer any assistance towards your engine repair.
We understand this matter has not been concluded to your satisfaction, however, we appreciate the opportunity to review the situation.
Sincerely,
Gennie Dumas
Customoer Service Supervisor

I have a list of 3 owners including myself (same suddenly seized engine at low mileage) interested in a class action lawsuit. Please get in touch if you'd like to join in....
Truly hope you don't experience the problem I had with your cars! It's scary when the car dies in the middle of the interstate....
best--
angela
