$990 is way too much from Midas for the "cat back." Midas parts are of poor quality. Even though they likely have some sort of lifetime warranty on parts, you have to pay for labor each time they replace a part. On my old C900 I had Midas junk and replaced the muffler at least every other year. A false economy. The Midas labor will likely be comparable (as Anders pointed out) or even higher than an indie or dealer.
I would just pick up the phone and start calling the dealer(s) and indy(ies) to get quotes on the cat back for parts and labor. A few minutes might save a lot of money.
The only distinction that you *might* be concerned with is what brand of parts the indy uses. It does not have to genuine SAAB to be far better quality than Midas. (You can check parts alternatives and prices through TSN sponsors. I'm fond of eeuroparts.com and genuinesaab.com.)
