I would like to seek some advise from the board members on how to deal with Saab to get them to replace the engine in my car. I am trying to get Saab to assist me in fixing a very costly damage - engine and possibly turbo need to be replaced. The car has now 61,000 miles on it and is out of warranty. I would also like to know if anybody experienced a similar problem (details below) - if so were you able to find out what caused it? I am attaching a link to pictures of the opened engine block. If nothing else: it is also a warning for other Saab 9-3 owners.

A couple of weeks ago the engine in my Saab (2002, 9-3) literally blew-up - I was driving on an interstate highway at 65-70 mph. Engine temperature was in normal range. Then the oil indicator lighted up for a few seconds. I heard a 'poof' sound and I saw a smoke screen behind my car. I started loosing speed rapidly in heavy traffic. Luckily for me and my kids, I was able to get to the right shoulder of the highway safely.

I took the car to the Saab dealer, where I was taking my car for service, to inspect what happened. Here is the text from the bill:
Removed cylinder head and found 3 pistons burned down to top rings. Could not determine cause of failure since engine won't run. No assistance offered by Saab Cars. Owner declined repair at this time. We tested fuel and it appears normal. Inspection shows also internal parts show no sludge - indicating good maintenance.

I called Saab and after a few days of deliberations they declined assistance in fixing my car. The justification: car is out of warranty. I took good care of this car and I cannot accept the fact that the engine blows up at 61,000 miles endangering me and my kids. I contacted a couple of lawyers that deal with car issues and their opinion was that I do not have a case till I can prove that it was an engine defect. So: anything that will help me to establish what caused the problem is helpful.
