I'm inclined to think like Jeremy - you sure you opened the drain?
Take off the left front wheel, look in thru the fender well, along the axle.
Relative to the axle, the drain plug is at 6 oclock. The check-level plug is at 3 oclock, and the fill plug is up on the top sorta underneath the powersteering fluid reservoir.
The drain plug isn't really very visible that way. It's obstructed by a rail of the subframe. Easier to see from underneath.
