Hi all,
I have a 97 900 N/A with the 2.3 - this one is a distributor car. About a month and a half ago, the car started having problems during acceleration, especially at low revs. If I provided a normal amount of foot to the accelerator, the engine would buck like mad until I got over about 2500 rpm and then things would smooth out. If I very slowly applied power, I could keep it from bucking. Eventually, the car threw a misfire code. I changed the spark plug wires, distributor cap, dizzy, and plugs.
The problem went away for 2 weeks.
Now its back again with a vengeance. It behaves like a car whose vacuum advance is not functioning. I've attempted to find general vacuum leaks with no luck. The idle is normal and smooth. Once you get it to speed, it will stay there happily without any balking...it only misfires when trying to accelerate, both under load or when revving for a downshift.
What controls advance on a distributor car? There plainly aren't any vacuum hoses coming off the distributor.
TIA
