New (to me) 2000 Viggen Conv - Only 1 Key & 1 Remote

Starting my first experiences with the New Generation after many, many years with Classic 900's ('84, '85, '86SPG, '86TC, '88TC, '92, '94CE) and 9000's ('92Turbo, '95Aero, '97Aero & '98CSE)
I've searched this board and read over 200 posts - and I appreciate the wealth of experience shared, so thanks in advance.
I purchased a 2000 Viggen Convertible to replace my rusting-away '94 Commemerative Edition convertible.
It came with only one key and one Alarm remote.
I was looking thru here trying to find a source for a second one of each and have read some horror stories when both are lost - but was not sure what years that applies to (my owners manual says I can disable the theft alarm with the key.) Anyway - sounds like I should get my butt to a dealer ASAP and get a second of each - or should I look for a used remote first and save a few bucks? What about the 'key transmittor' as seen in eEuro for $30 (dealer lists for $34)? I imagine I could then get a locksmith to cut a blank I could combine with the transmittor, then take to Saab and have programmed into my car. eEuro also has the remote for $125 (dealer lists for $138.)
The more I write, the more I think this might be a no-brainer - seems like it's not worth it tp save $17. Any thoughts?
