Yeah, sludge had scared me too. I have a 2001 base 93 with 102k. About 10k ago I noticed that yellow goo on the dipstick. So I pulled the valve cover off and everything looked really clean. Then drained the oil and poked and scraped around thru the oil drain hole with a wire and found no deposits. I then did the Auto Rx routine. Everything seems to be just fine. If you have been doing those oil changes, I would think you're pretty safe. I talked to a SAAB master mechanic at the local dealership and he said as long as we do frequent oil changes with synthetic we should be good.
