Seth,
I would not trust anything in my engine other than oil. The thought just scares me, on the possibility of something coming loose. Why don't you buy some mobi1l oil, change the oil with the filter, drive the car 50 miles and drain the oil again? If you're going to want to do a "flush" you may as well do one with just oil. Yeah, it'll cost you but at least you have nothing to worry about. That way, you make sure to remove as much old oil as you can.
At that age, if you are worried about things I would drop the pan and inspect that way. Be careful about using some of these products.
You have a beautiful car. Don't let anything happen to it!
Bender.
