I checked again over the weekend and oil was coming down the oil pan bolts at the flywheel and traveling across the pan and going down and clinging to the drain bolt. I had not seen this much before. I have ordered the parts and getting ready to try it myself. I have all the needed tools, engine support, long frame jack with transmission adapter etc. I have had the car for 9 years and I just can't justify dropping $1,000 in it at this point. $100 on the parts in another story. I plan on a rear seal, Torque converter seal and axle seals.
I do have a direct question. I have seen the L shaped tool that Saab has that is a Torque converter retainer tool. That looks easy enough to make but I do not know where it mounts. I see a tab on the transmission at the rubber plug on the bottom of the torque converter plate. This v shaped aluminum section does not have a drilled and tapped hole in it at all to be able to use this tool that states it has a 6mm 50mm bolt in it. Can anyone clarify where this tool mounts on the transmission to retain the torque converter from falling out during the removal of the transmission?
Over the weekend again I tried to 100% confirm it is the rear seal and due the the pan over hang a little at the flywheel the oil is coming around the pan lip and clinging to the 3 or so pan bolts that are at the flywheel. I tried to get a long swab in between the flywheel and the engine to test but it is tight in there. I did remove the torque converter plate and rubber plug to try this. I hope I do not have an oil pan leaking instead of a rear seal but that is the price you pay to DIY. It will have a rear seal, leaking or not and the oil pan will be an easy pull and seal at that point if needed. Swedecar, again thank you for your help.
