Is there any way to diagnose if a clutch not fully disengaging is the fault of the master or slave cylinder? I don't know of a way to do so other than a visual of one of the cylinders leaking fluid. As far as I know there are no external leaks from either the master or slave in this case.
2001 9-3 SE, difficult to get into reverse. My wife has said that sometimes it seems to work just fine, though the few times I have taken a look at it, it has not worked for me. I'm 99% positive one of the cylinders is at fault, possibly the master leaking past the plunger internally.
It seems likely this is due to the clutch not disengaging fully, though there are 0 problems in all forward gears, either up or down shifting. Attempting to place in reverse (car on a level surface) will result in the car attempting to move backwards, obviously the input shaft to the tranny is still powered to some degree.
The clutch pedal has a "normal" amount of play prior to feeling resistance, about 1".
Clutch engages very close to the floor, too close for my liking, and the pedal seems a little soft. However the only thing I have to compare that to is my Viggen, so it simply could be the SE pedal is that soft comparatively speaking. I would think though that the engage/disengage point would be relatively close to the same point of pedal travel.
Thanks
