And just the shear weight and awkwardness of lifting the head up can be enough so if you "nudge" the brittle guide with the head you won't even noticed you cracked it until you look at it.
The same goes when getting the head back on. One little touch and you broke the guide.
I place several mats on the core support so I can lean my elbows on there as leverage while placing the head back on. That way I don't have to stand with bent back for too long trying to rustle it back quickly.
Since I also have the exhaust manifold loosely installed already, I have to guide the 4 turbo studs on there too at the same time as the head goes down.
