Soooo...it looks like the rear balance shaft has to come out in order to remove and install the left chain guide. Without it removed, the guide doesn't rotate enough to clear the main balance chain sprocket on the driveshaft. My existing chain guide is overlapped by the main balance chain sprocket by about 1/16" so it won't come off...nor would the new one slide on unless I can rotate the guide toward the rear of the car. In order to rotate it toward the rear of the car, I must remove the rear balance shaft.
I'd rather not have to remove it since that means lifting the engine up to clear the fender to allow the removal of the balance shaft. Instead, is there a way to remove the collar-looking device that sits over the drive shaft key...and that would allow the balance shaft sprocket to come off?
In the event I do pull the balance shaft, does it have any special way that it needs to be replaced?
