Diagnosing inner boot failure axlecondition ('96 900) Posted by Frank [Email] (#2509) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Frank) on Sun, 20 May 2012 17:53:44 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Nice young lady purchased this 1996 SAAB 900S several years ago
from a great SAABer in the Atlanta area. She told me the other
day her mechanic told her she would have to replace her axle
on the driver's side. I remembered the previous owner did great
maintenance and kept good records. The outer boot/joint had been
replaced about a year prior to his selling the car.
When I got under the SAAB, I found it was the inner boot on the
driver's side which was dried out and cracked.
So....my question is this.....is there a way to determine if the
CV joint under the boot has been damaged or prematurely worn out
because of the bad boot? I'd had to go into this repair gig with a new
boot only to discover the CV joint was bad as well. Thanks in advance for your help. Frank
