Viggen Tyres - or Tires to you :)

Hi Folks. I'm sure there's been a lot of discussion over the years about tyres, but I wanted to ask if anyone had been using Dunlop SP Sport 9000s and, if you were no longer able to get them, what alternatives you might've tried.
I understand that the Viggen was developed originally to be fitted with Dunlop SP Sport 2000s and the SP 9000s were the most recent versions. After several sets of tyres on mine over 103,000 km, Goodyear Eagle F1s, Bridgestone Grid IIs etc I believe the Dunlops did suit the car best. Unfortunately - here in Australia at least - the directional style of tyre seems to be out of fashion and Dunlop have discontinued the SP 9000.
Why am I so bothered you might ask? Well, most of the tyre tread patterns around seem to have a fairly wide band of plain rubber round the centre [ center ;) ] of the tyre and, from my own empirical field testing [!] the very directional pattern of the SP 9000, which has a much thinner plain surface area around the centre, does actually have and effect on how the car drives, most particularly in the wet.
Any helpful thoughts appreciated.
