167k miles
We hit a cold snap up here in Wisconsin, been near 0F the last 2 weeks or so. Usual drive is 8 miles to work (14mins, mostly highway), engine not warm for long. Today, I had to go somewhere, much longer drive. Drove ~40 minutes, and get off the highway, I coast at idle at a stoplight.
Oil light and red ! pop on, first time ever seen that one. I blip the throttle, and it goes away.
Then, because I'm having a space-out day anyway, I decide to drive home 4 hours later, after checking oil level is ok.
On way home, the light starts popping on at higher and higher revs, until I find myself killing the engine and coasting straight roads, flipping the engine on and driving 3k rpm to get back up to the speed limit and coasting again. By the time I got home, light on under 3k RPMs. Engine temp ok, no apparent oil consumption.
So, operating under the premise that these are resiliant engines (Note, I'm driving NG900 B204, not a sluge-prone 9-3 B205) and I haven't killed it yet, what should I be looking at first to try and diagnose?
It's been ~2k+ miles, but it's 4 months because I don't drive much. Probably conventional 5w-30, don't remember even what was put in it at last oil change this summer.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
