Viggen motor removal, out the top or bottom?

2000 Viggen, needs timing chain and maybe more stuff. At ~150K miles maybe a clutch as well. So I'm not too inclined to "push the motor over" to gain the room to remove the timing chain cover with motor in car, but maybe I don't know what I'm in for regarding an engine removal.
I have an engine hoist, engine stand, etc (I've pulled motors out of 9000 CSEs and C900). The manuals say drop the motor from below, but I don't have a lift for the car. I suppose I could separate the motor/trans, then remove motor from top once I strip off the necessary components (alternator? etc).
If I drop motor/trans from the bottom, how high would I need to jack up the car? If I were to jack the car a sufficient height, I suppose I'd be lowering the motor onto a dolly using my engine hoist (in reverse).
opinions?
