Whoops, yes I was wrong on that one. I had no idea that TCS used the brakes in the manner that it does. If I was unclear on what I explained, I'll try again: I asked if he could permanently disable TCS so I wouldn't have to turn it off all the time. He said he couldn't, but he lowered the sensitivity of the system when it was not disengaged (i.e. now it will allow more wheelspin w/o cutting engine power). While I can feel the difference in what he did, I did not equate it to better traction, simply much closer to how the car behaves when TCS is disabled.
I have always hated the stock TCS intervention when driving "spiritedly"... sometimes I want wheelspin, and when I don't want wheelspin, I have always felt perfectly capable of dealing with it via my right foot. However I'll have to keep in mind that the brakes are helping out to when I'm in the snow or something, because now that I think of it, I usually turn off TCS in the snow (I had tried it before and it felt useless). Perhaps there's more to John's adjustments that I was not aware of...
Thanks for the info!
