For winter driving, you would for sure notice the changes when one wheel has more traction than the other. So I always make a point of putting one wheel in the shoulder to avoid ice or hope for some gravel. When the braking portion of the TCS kicks in the effect is much greater.
Like I said before, I also have appreciated the JZW improvements in snow. Your winter tires will need to dig down just a little to reach to something solid, so some wheel spin can be OK. When the tire does find traction, you'll get a bit of a boost to keep you going through other not-so-great patches.
My parent's house is in the hills, so I grew up driving various vehicles and trying to get home in all kinds of weather...
