You live in a metropolitan area with some of the worst traffic problems in the country. I would dare say that you spend lots of time in stop and go traffic, idling, hot in the summer, etc. That would put you in the severe or hard use category. Did you maintain the car to that level? 10,000 miles between oil changes in that kind of use is asking for trouble. If you only maintained the car to the "normal" use specs then that would be a contibuting factor to your engine/trans issues.
I can't explain the electrics other than to suspect the alternators were part of the reason the other parts failed.
Four sets of tires, suspension bushings, and exhaust sytems at that rate are incredible to say the least. Again, I have to ask, are you a "hard" driver? If you just received a 10,000 mile service and hit a pot hole that knocked out your alignment, would you get to the alignment shop ASAP or wait till the next 10,000 service? Sorry, but it justs seems odd that you have gone through so much so fast.
I am not trying to say that you abused your car, please understand I do not mean that. I am saying that normal maintenance schedules are based on light use. When you go beyond that, you MUST perform more maintenance.
One thing I have learned about SAABs. If you maintain them religously, they will take care of you. If you do not, they will make you pay dearly.
Having said that, I maintain my cars like I would an airplane. For the most part they have been trouble free.
