I don't know if this is the same problem that I had or not. I have a 1999 9-3.
The black coating on both front door pillars began peeling off a last month. My dealer said that it was a common problem and fixed it on a return visit at no charge. The black coating appears to be a very thin vinyl which is glued in place. Maybe you have the same problem with your door handles.
