No, the Sensonic was never sold in the US. There is _one_ in the States, but it was built from parts brought in from Europe. It is possible to do the conversion, but it's a complex (and costly) one. I don't know all the details, but the biggest hurdles would likely be finding the Sensonic computer and the appropriate sensors for the clutch and shifter mechanisms.
I'm on vacation right now and away from my email archive, but I do have some more info on the system that I'd be glad to send you. I have been in contact with the owner of the US sensonic car, and might be able to put you in contact with him.
Normally, I'd say a "normal" manual is the way to go, but since you're facing LA traffic, I understand your search for something that doesn't require all the clutch action. Saab had been considering marketing the Sensonic in just a few areas of the US, LA and New York were at the top of that list.
