If it was the upper small pully, on the slack adjuster arm, it can be changed in a couple of minutes.
I am beginning to think that having a spare on board, a length of 1/2x1/2 tube, a nail and a 13mm wrench would make as much sense as having a spare tire! The belt is not necessarily destroyed, but keeping a used one in the kit would be prudent.
Did you hear any noise before it went?
I assume that you had a new belt fitted as well.
Most of these pullies last a long time. Mine lasted for about 115000 miles, and I slackened the belt and decided that it felt dry, I removed, and cleaned and regreased, but did not feel good about that and then I replaced both plastic idler pullies. My pullies did not make any noise. With high speeds, you don't want to have much grease in these, as the grease itself would cause overheating.
The small one spins so fast, that it seems destined to fail.
Because the outer race spins, these have a tendancy to spin the grease out throught the seals. With a fixed outer race, this would not happen. So we have a bearing spinning extremely fast, that is really mis configured in terms of expected life. Replacement every 50000 miles is not my conclusion.
