I know at least "some" of the vacuum lines were replaced one one of the trips to the dealer, but I don't know to what extent.
I'd expect a leak of that sort to produce consistent behavior, although I can picture a scenario where the ECU shifts usage of various air and vacuum lines and sometimes hits on a bad one.
The flex pipe certainly is suspect. With 5+ years in central PA, it could be on it's last legs.
It would take far too much space to describe everything the car does, but here's some more info:
I'll be driving along, say 2500 in 3rd or 4th gear, I'll feel a minute surge. I lift off the throttle, and note the upshift light remains on, very little engine braking. Sometimes pushing in the clutch reveals an idle between 1500-1800, other times the idle is normal, around 1100. Engaging the clutch again returns the condition (upshift light, etc) Sometimes the condition goes away without my noticing (until the next time I lift), other times the car gives a little buck/stumble/jerk, and is back to normal.
The high idle has occurred under cold start conditions, hot soak conditions, ambient temps ranging from 20 to 90 degrees F. My comment on fluctuations may have been misleading, the fluctuation period isn't just a couple of seconds, but rather several (2-15) minutes.
thanks, Mike
