I just finished replacing my stock washer hose with silicone hose (just preventative maintenance). When I pulled the washer hose from the check valve, the fluid did not all run out. The car was parked on a level surface so maybe if the front of the vehicle was downhill, the reservoir would empty. But I beleieve the check valve is mainly to keeep the fluid near the headlights for quicker washer action. It could be replaced by a tee fitting if necessary.
