I can settle this.
Last year I was able to hold 15 PSI with the Hallman controller feed from the intake manifold. I got steady pressure up to the red line. So the turbo was willing and able. Then cool weather hit... pressure overshoots.
I just did quite a few runs with the new pressure tap attached to the return tube on the top of the (old style) intercooler. The strange effects with the lower gears we see with the compressor pressure tap seem to be gone. There is some high rpm prssure losses, but these are from the downstream plumbing losses. The weird stuff is gone. At least I will get some decent dyno runs Saturday.
Don't be hacking up your intercoolers just yet, at least until you have a way to avoid metal bits inside, or removing them.
I am thinking of trying a pressure tap near the blowoff valve.
At least the pressure overshoots are quite minor now. The worst of the time delay induced problems seem to be undercontrol. BUT, I need a cold or cool morning, not many of those left for a while, to make the final determination.
I decribed the new fitting a few hours ago... see that post.
