For me double clutching is an old habit from my trucking days. sometimes I catch myself doing it on upshifts. Double clutching on upshifts is done without reving the engine, it slows down the input shaft in the trans to rev match the next gear. It was necessary with the big non-synchro truck transmissions.
If done right it will save wear and tear on the synchros. If you do it right you should feel no resistence moving the shifter into the gear you select and the tach needle shouldn't suddenly move when you let out the clutch.
