A change to synthetic ATF should not require cleaning or changing the filter screen.
Given your current driving style you should be good for 30,000 - 45,000 mile automatic transmission service intervals using conviential ATF and 60,000+ mile automatic transmission service intervals using synthetic ATF. Assuming you start with all new fluid of course.
My history with Service Managers is that many do not know enough about the various automotive services to be accurate or informative. Also a lot of information gets lost between the Service Managers write-up and the technician who actually performs the service. If the Service Manager wrote a work order to "service auto trans" the technician simply did not know you wanted all the fluid replaced and did a 'normal' auto trans service.
