I have the car at a different Saab dealer from the one that did the "Service Transaxle" - changed fluid. An unrelated item is being worked on. Since it was there anyway I asked if he had the fluid exchange machine for the ATF. He said they chose not to purchase one as they cost about $7,000. In any case I asked if he could replace another 3.5 quarts of ATF and not to bother with the screen/filter and related gasket as it had been cleaned a couple of days ago when 1/2 of the fluid was changed. He told me that the only way to clean the screen was to pull the transmission from the car and remove the top cover to access it. As the prior dealer charged $48.00 for the service I'm confident they didn't pull the trans. (Just charged me about $14.00 a quart). The service manager said they will change the next 3.5 quarts and he will check with a tech. as to whether he is correct that the screen can only be accessed by the above procedure. I'll post the answer in a day or so when I get the car back.
