Fuel Vapor smell @ idle

Looking for any ideas that might help troubleshoot a problem with my 96 900 Turbo. Lately I've smelled raw gas when I start the car in the am to warm up or when sitting in traffic. As soon as the vehicle is under motion the smell goes away. I did find and repaired a cracked vacuum hose at the manifold leading to the vapor canister purge valve. I thought this would fix the problem but it didn't. The purge valve is working (disconnect hose with going from valve to the canister and feel vacuum with the engine running. I bought a new fuel cap (correct unvented type) still no help. I've inspected all visible fuel lines from the injectors to the filter and tank and see no signs of the slightest leaks or seeps. My only guess would that the canister became flooded or vapor saturated during the period the vacuum hose was cracked, but I'd suspect it would clear up by now. Anybody have to change a canister to fix a similar problem? Any other recommendations?
