Well there are several possibilities, some more painful than others. It is probable, that because the car is cool, there is no leak. In other words, without the pressure created from the heat you will not see the leak. I had the problem of leaking coolant, but in my case, it was obvious. The burning smell of coolant is an unpleasant reminder that something is wrong. Often the radiator hoses and the heater core hoses break at their attachment points, as the clamps work their way through the hoses, making tiny holes through which the coolant is lost. Check all the hoses and their connections/clamps by running a clean paper towel around it. You should be able to spot any humidity/leak that way. The undercover usually disguises where the leaks are comming from. You can also remove the under cover and place a large piece of paper/cardboard under the car so you can get a better feeling of the location of the leak
However, if you have a very slow coolant loss, then, from what I have read here, it could be the heater core. If that is the case, that is a pretty labor intensive job. It is not impossible for the DIY, but it is pretty time consuming. But, but but, if I recall properly, the heater core leak does not leaves coolant on the floor.
Hope that helps.
