Darn, it's the control module Posted by aizzo [Email] (#1220) [Profile/Gallery] (more from aizzo) on Thu, 15 Jan 2004 22:02:06 In Reply to: Re: How to replace Cruise Controll stepping motor?, aizzo [Profile/Gallery] , Thu, 15 Jan 2004 17:12:05 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I took apart the control module tonight and looked inside. In the top part, where the wiring goes in, is a PCB. On the bottom is the stepping motor that drives a pulley. Attached to the pulley is a yellow nylon strap that is connected to the cable that is attached to the throttle body. The stepping motor doesn't directly connect to the pulley, it actually drives a worm gear that in turn drives a gear on the pulley. Is that all clear? :-)
Anyway, in my case the worm gear has pretty much disintegrated. These gears are made out of plastic, and the inside of the controller had a nice dusting of plastic dust. So, I put it all back together and it is now working, for the moment. Since the worm gear was so warn and seeing as how I didn't really do anything but re-position the worm gear and blow out all the plastic dust, I think it's only a matter of time before it fails again.
So, who knows the location of a good junk yard for Saab parts in San Diego? :-)
