How old is the product you're using? Sometimes the components will seperate and breakdown. Also, some products will not perform well after they freeze/thaw/re-freeze several times in the garage.
Be sure you're applying only enough to spread a thin film on to the panels of your car using overlapping strokes. This will ensure even coverage.
Also - I really like meguiars NXT Tech Wax. Applys very easily, removes without dusting heavily, and gives great results. Use foam applicator to apply, and microfiber towels to remove waxes and polishes to avoid scratching your paint.
