The ads I've seen (only in print) show the back end of a new 9-3SS and a flag saying "the state of independence". What the heck does that lofty statement mean? The 1988 Corolla my neighbor's son drives gives him considerable independence. Saab doesn't have a monopoly on it.
And that is what the ads lack... Saab is conveyed really as nothing special. It doesn't win races, it isn't the fastest, it isn't really anything special at all. It is just a "quirky" car in the performance/luxury sedan market where "quirky" isn't what you want to be.
So to answer your question, what I think of the brand is solid engineering, long life, excellent design, efficiency, safety. But the public doesn't know that. People I meet kinda smirk and say laughingly "hey how do you like that car?" like it is some kind of rare delicate automobile for spectacled professors or birkenstock clad earth mommas.
