Nick,
Thanks for the offer to email you with questions. Very much appreciated. I let you know when I get there. First off is getting the old cabinets out and ripping up the vinyl tiles. What I have seen of the sub-floor so far looks good so hopefully the whole thing is. It is quite a large eat in kitchen, around 340 square feet.
I really like how you did the floors in your pictures. My wife would like to break up our kitchen sort of like that since it is so large. Half tile in the actual cooking area then hardwood the rest of the way. The other half is going to serve as our dining area and office.
My wife and I have what I believe is pretty good taste, good mix of traditional and contemporary, and we've always recieved compliments on our living quarters....but we've never tackled something of this size and I worry about the finished product. I just hope it turns out OK. It's just tough with what is essentially a multipurpose room like the one we have.
It's funny though, when we first walked through the house we thought, wow, not many projects to take on besides of painting. Wrong, we've gone from just getting new appliances to totalling remodeling the kitchen. My other concern is the rest of the hardwood flooring in the foyer/hall and living room. It all looked OK but the more I'm in the house now the more I thinking of redoing that also.
Oh well, that's what we've saved money for.
Todd
