...check to see if there are any Amish cabinetry shops in your area. I re-did a large kitchen, containing about 28 cabinets, IIRC, and the Amish produced a better product than the local cabinet store, for about 10 grand less. Here are some details: Local store: cherry, but extensive use of cherry veneers, particle board shelves and base, very narrow rails and stiles on the doors. Amish: rails and stiles on doors wider, floating raised panel solid cherry, and a breathtaking finish.
Keep in mind that working with the Amish is not for everyone. If you are low key, patient and enjoy hanging around with low key people, then it might work for you.
