If your target job doesn't come along soon after you start looking and you don't want to do more school get a job while your looking, any job, at some place that has potential and excel. You will have a better chance for something you do want down the road internally, will develop contacts on the inside that might know of something some place or who will even try to take you out with them if they leave. You should come up with some sort of general path that taps your skills or interest but it is OK for that to shift around as you see where things will take you.
I haven't really worked for many employers (maybe 8 or 9 including part-time and tempoary) but I applied for exactly 4 of those jobs (and 2 were temporary). All the others were simply offered or application suggested (with sort of a wink) without direct expression of interest in the job by me. In addition, there were other opportunities made known that I didn't follow (at least 2 of those were with now defunct internet startups so I guess that is a good thing). That should not be taken as an indication that you shouldn't be very aggressive in your search just indicative of how important it is to be at the right place at the right time and to have a reputation for excellent work. By comparision my job application to offer ratio for regular advertised type positions postively sucks. Simply sending out resumes in response to ads is the toughest way to get a job.
Better yet do what I wish I had done out of school. Move out west (if your not there already) and become a ski bum.
Finally don't rule out more training if you have a known target. Along the lines of being at the right place at the right time and getting just enough experience to move forwad I had a friend many years out of school (ecology or something) that decided he wanted to be a film producer. He had no background or experience. He volunteered at the local community radio station for a year or so and got some experience with radio producing. Then he packed up and went off to some expensive hands on film school and learned as much as he could in the first couple semesters and then made contacts and started working with someone where he gained more experience and eventually developed a partnership. He never did finish school; just that first year. He mostly just does advertising and corporate promotional type stuff but he loves it and is happy.
