So-called "black boxes" in Saabs? For real? Posted by turrbo [Email] (#8) [Profile/Gallery] (more from turrbo) on Mon, 20 Feb 2006 12:39:13 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
This is from a local (very shitty) newspaper that I don't usually trust at all, but I had to post it anyway. I've heard of this "feature" on newer American cars, but I've never heard about it specifially with respect to Saabs. Is it true?
<<But if you're in an accident, it knows everything. It knows how fast you were traveling, whether your seat belt was buckled and if you applied the brakes.
It's called a "black box" and it's an event data recorder equipped in some 30 million U.S. automobiles and in 90 percent of all new cars coming off the assembly lines from such companies as General Motors, Ford, Saab and Isuzu.
It was put there by automakers to help them better understand car crashes and how to help make their cars safer. But many state lawmakers, lawyers and civil libertarians claim most Americans don't know that the data collected can be used against them by police and insurance companies.>>
(Those of you from the North Shore...this is from the Eagle-Tribune, so take it lightly!)
