Tough to teach a spouse or child, in a co-dependent kinda' way, a skill like shifhting a manual transmission. Not always the case, but there are few normal folks who can pull it off. There are some things better learned from strangers and uninvolved unjudgmental folks. Maybe a driving school will teach her or perhaps you have a friend or a willing Saab salesperson to get her going on the basics.
Lotsa' good automatic hot rods, Saabs included, if she never learns. Slap shifters like a Saab Sentronic in a 9-3 aren't so bad. Having your own stick shift car could be an advantage, let her supply the cruiser daily transport vehicle and you can have your somewhat less practical or just plain impractical toy.
Wives tolerate motorcycles quite well for example and if you're particularly blessed like I am, like to go for rides all the time. My wife has absolutely no desire to operate her own motorcyle, but gets half the enjoyment of mine. Lucky me I get the better half of that deal.
