John Muir Trail - highly recommended Posted by PGAero [Email] (#1143) [Profile/Gallery] (more from PGAero) on Thu, 28 Sep 2006 15:47:24 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
So, I've done a fair bit of backpacking and hiking along the John Muir Trail and adjoining areas in the past, but this summer (July 29 - August 18), I hiked from Yosemite to Mt. Whitney along the John Muir Trail. I just got some pictures posted to the good ol' world wide web and have to share.
Some notes:
-I started in Tuolumne Meadows in the interest of avoiding the Valley on a weekend in July, but have hiked up from the Valley in the past.
-I hiked out twice for food, but the JMT does not cross a road along its 200+ mile route, so you have to hike "out" to re-supply.
-I logged more than 200 miles with my backpack.
-Completed in the 30's, the JMT is the highest trail in the 48 and goes from Yosemite Valley, CA to Mt. Whitney (14,494ft), near Lone Pine, CA.
I highly recommend seeing even just little bits of this country if you're interested in hiking. It makes you feel small. And the drive along 395 to many of the trails which access the JMT is very good Saab territory!
