OT: Color Changing Ceiling Paint.... Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Thu, 18 Jan 2007 11:12:49 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My wife and I repainted our family room last weekend as the initial step in a whole house re-freshening. We used the color changing ceiling paint made by Valspar (goes on light purple but changes to bright white as it dries) to make the ceiling painting step easier - greatly reduced chance of skipping areas or under painting areas of the ceiling.
Prior to painting the ceiling I used spackling compound to repair three spots where we had previously installed hooks for hanging lights and decor items. I patched, sanded, then primed the spots with the primer being applied 60 minutes before the ceiling paint.
All areas of the ceiling dried brilliant white within 30 minutes of application, other than the three patched areas. The next day they were still visible so we coated them a second time with the color changing ceiling paint.
Last night, 3-1/2 days later, the spots are still visible. White, but not the same brilliant white as the rest of the ceiling. I called Valspar today to find out what to do next.
Their answer is that from their test lab experience, spackled areas of the ceiling absorb the moisture from the paint to a greater depth than the rest of the ceiling. Their experience says that these areas should show significant improvement (closer color match) after three days, and full color match to rest of ceiling after 5 days.
Unfortunately, surrendering to the natural inclination to repaint the "spots", as we did, slows the delayed drying process even more. They estimated 7 to 10 days for full color match to adjoining ceiling areas.
As I told the Customer Service Rep, I have no problem waiting a few more days for the full drying as long as the spots will soon disappear. They also recommended using a pedestal fan, directed at the ceiling spots, to speed the drying process.
Has anyone else experienced this? Did it eventually dry to a uniform color?
Thanks.
