MY take on GM is that all this began in the late 60's, early 70's when management changed from engineering backgrounds to accountants. Maximizing profit and high quality seldom work together.
Maybe Toyo has been taken over by accountants??
My office manager's first Corolla went way over 200k before the timing belt broke...with no other damage incidently.... and is still in service nearing 300k. Her husband drives it back and forth to the Mercedes plant, over 150 miles a day. Her 2006 Corolla has had nigling problems, to the point she'd looking to trade it on something "reliable". Obviously she's not a "car person", but drives 100 miles a day back and forth to work.
Maybe Toyo's time is near?? Their cheapest interiors aren't as cheap looking as GM's though....don't kow about you, but that's where I spend all my "car time".
