BF is hygroscopic...sucks water out of air, through rubber hoses, etc.
It also can attack seals, etc. Castrol LMA, for one, I won't use in my Girling brake systems. Turns black in wala 13 months...just long enough to void the warranty on Girling master cylinders. Ask me how I know this.
I prefer ATE blue racing brake fluid. No probs for 10 years or so.
WHICH is why you're supposed to flush your brake fluid annually. Yes, every year, boychik!!
I use a Griot's Garage brake fluid tester twice a year...it's irritating to have to calibrate it every time to a pint can of new brake fluid and then test the fluid in the reservoir but there it is. I generally suck the fluid out the reservoir and refill it with new fluid and then use the rest of the can to flush the brake lines. If the tester says bad, then I hook up the pressure bleeder and put a quart through the entire system. Hmmm, seems like I could just eliminate the testing and flush the system but then how would I know?
