insurance card or not, were that buyer to run over a 4th grade class that was waiting to buy ice cream, it would be on the owner of the car on teh day of the event. In states that have transport registrations (in NY, 30 days I think) the sale can be consummated with the buyer's insurance taking over.
I agree that the disaster is a long shot, but if your insurance does not cover the loss, your assets are back-up. And the insurance company mnay have a bone to pick with you over the arrangement.
Excuse the grisly example, what came to mind was a NY Chinatown event, Janaury this year. Only two children were killed when a van negligently left empty in reverse backed over them.
