I'm not arguing whether I am for or against a gas tax, but I do wish to offer another perspective. First of all, there is the question of whether a gas tax is truly a gasoline tax or an overall fuel tax (which would include diesel). Regardless, there are a number of people who are either required to make a commute to/from work via personal transportation or driving is a requirement of the job. Public transit is great it it's available, but it is not available or feasible throughout a vast majority of this nation's geographical area.
Having that said, a gas or fuel tax will simply pass cost on to businesses, companies, and ultimately consumers. I'm almost beginning to think that there isn't a 100% fair solution to much of anything these days. If a gas or fuel tax were to be imposed, there would have to be strict guidelines, a very definite outline of the plan, who gets taxed, if there is a tax cap/limit, exemptions, etc. To make it really work well, it would have to be very complicated...complicated to the point that it would become broken...and broken enough that the solution has to be fixed.
Oh the world in which we live... Drive safely and KEEP ON SAABING!!!
