We have a fleet of John Deere Gators, ATV's for checking irrigation equipment and livestock, pickups, etc. It's not uncommon for us to go through 1,500 - 2,000 gallons of gasoline in a month. This is all strictly necessary use, no recreational driving whatsoever. Like I said, we have over 300 square miles of farmland and it all has to be maintained and checked on a daily basis. This is only farming and ranching. Nobody has addressed the impact on delivery, installation, repair, utility, etc. costs. Each city, county, gas company, electric company, florist, farmer, (the list goes on and on) has a fleet of gas-powered vehicles that are used out of necessity. Raising costs for an industry raises costs for the consumer. I know, it's a vicious circle. I can justify a gas tax on recreational and unnecessary driving, but how do you accomplish that? Allow me to play devil's advocate here, but how is it any different for a government to say I shouldn't drive a black car than it is for a government to say I shouldn't drive a certain type of car? Just thinking out-loud... Drive safely and KEEP ON SAABING!!!
