It was a hoot! I never owned one but did own a Corvair and met other owners. Rememeber that the older body style had a 145 cu in flat six, so that Spyder did move ok before the turbo did it's thing. The newer body style started in 1965 IIRC and that engine was a flat 6 as well but 164 cu in engine.
Maybe the ride I got in the Covair was the reason I bought my first Saab Turbo in 1985...
I traded "up" for a VW fast back with injectors and a stick, then traded "up" again for a 912 Porsche with twin two barrel Solex carbs, three cars with rear engine and rear wheel drive. Later went the conventional front engine rRWD a couple of times, and finally settled on the FWD front engine. A couple of things you can't do in this configuration, but nothing important!
