I thought wagons were Volvo's bread + butter... tons of them in our neighbourhood, along with saab 9-5 wagons, Subaru Outback wagons, Audi A4+A6 Avants, Passat + Jetta wagons, even BMW wagons... sport wagons totally outnumber suvs here... I wouldn't even look at an SUV or xover... too high stance = crappy vehicle dynamics...
I think the bigger issue is Volvo has gained real competition from all these other makes. Under ford, they regressed to a single v6 engine for the v70, and it's true there aren't a lot of new ones around... I think people found better, "cooler" options. Saab better get a 9-5 wagon + or hatch out quick!
still on dealer bashing: our now defunct dealer claimed they sold 10 saab sedans for every wagon (in response to my asking where all the wagons were - there were none on the lot at the time). In my neighbourhood, there are closer to 10 saab sportwagons for every saab sedan + sportwagons hold their value more as well... does not surprise me our dealer is out of business!
