Just how long "for now" may be is anyone's guess.
The Chinese may be the hub of the world when it comes to copying others' ideas and technology, but they aren't stupid. And they are world-class capitalists.
My guess is that initially they see Volvo as a premium brand for which people will pay serious bucks and want to leverage that as a way to show they can run with some of the big dogs in the auto industry. The extent to which they leverage Volvo technology downstream to other Geely models will be interesting.
Still, I think it's 50:50 over the next five years as to whether they will maintain the Volvo brand with all its valued characteristics intact, or cheapen and dilute it. It won't take too long before we find out.
